Back-to-school sales are expected to reach $75.8 billion, up from last year’s $68 billion. Shoppers plan to spend an average of $674 this year, up from $630 last year. Last year’s shoppers procrastinated, but this year many have started early, both online and offline. Nearly three-quarters of back-to-school families started their shopping one to two months before the first day of school.
